“Go West, young man, go West and grow up with the country.”
-Horace Greeley
This blog was born as a simple series of Facebook notes that I started writing when I moved to Hawai’i in September 2009. It was called Young Man Went West and served as both an outlet to share my post-college experiences and a means to keep in contact with my friends and family in California. I eventually bought a domain and moved everything over to YoungManWentWest.com.
For three months in the summer of 2011, my friend Ian and I embarked on a roadtrip around the continental United States. The related posts are under the title Young Man On The Road and number one to 22, taking place between posts 30 and 31 of Young Man Went West.
“You got it backwards, it’s ‘Go East, Young Man, Go East.'”
-Ishmael Reed
In June of 2012, I moved to New York with my girlfriend, Jenn. Having done so, I changed the blog’s name–and URL–to Young Man Went East.
P. S. Sprinkled throughout this blog are a few film-related articles. As a former film student with an obvious tendency to publish my opinions, it was only natural this site would include reviews of films I’ve seen. These will not be regular entries as I do not review every film I see, only the ones that are so good (or so bad) that I cannot help but tell you what I think.
